Our fun continues as we venture into the chapter in the ongoing saga of Peter Parker, The Amazing Spider-Man.
Before we begin the lesson on issue number 2, it is always important to go over the notes from last class to make sure our material stays fresh in the overused and clouded minds of the students. Plus we need to start going over a major detail to kick around for our master script --- The Villain.
Over the course of our class, I open the floor to the students to kick around ideas to place their favorite villain in our script. A great lesson in class democracy fused with Hollywood politics. Until we decide on our lead villain, we have to continue to pad the origin of Peter Parker the Spider-Man
Using Batman Begins as our main blueprint, I like the idea of upping Peter's profile, getting him away from the shy timid teenager and giving him a bit of Bruce Wayne kick. Once Peter's parents are killed, Peter has a tough time finishing his high school responsibilities and takes off to find answers to all the questions over his parents death and the fact that he is now an orphan. Child welfare suggests moving him in with his father's older brother, the recently widowed Uncle Ben. The kids love the idea of making Uncle Ben Parker similar to Alfred from the Batman legend and believe that the lack of Aunt May's sweet influence in Peter's life will help make our tale even darker.
In the time since ASM 1, Martin Luther King was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama for "parading without a permit," Coca Cola introduced it's 1st diet beverage, Fidel Castro made his first visit to Russia and Playboy Buddy Rogers is the first of many wild sports entertainers when he is crowned the first ever WWWF Champion, the wrestling organization that will eventually become Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment
